- Overwatch is getting some much-needed changes to the Competitive playlist, Hero Pool and Map Pool according to the Blizzard in their recent blog post.
Overwatch is still one of the strongest games out there. Recently Activision made a deal with Youtube in order to move all their competitive matches viewing rights to Youtube. This was an abrupt change and no one was expecting it. The changes began actually some time ago. We saw the implementation of Map Pool and Hero Pools into Overwatch. This changed the competitive mode by a large margin. Every week there was new maps available to play and new heroes to choose from.
However, players did not find this system very satisfying because, sometimes, their most favorite heroes were not available in Competitive matches.
Overwatch Competitive Update
Finally, Blizzard devs changed their idea about the Map and Hero Pool in competitive matches. According to a recent blog post by the developers, there will be a new system coming into the selection of maps and heroes. Each week Overwatch developers will take a look at the pick rates of the heroes. This will be crunched into numbers and all heroes above a certain threshold will be available to play next week.
However, heroes will low pick rates will be banned at random. Blizzard will announce them at the end of each week. According to these numbers they will ban, 2 DPS, one tank and one support hero each week from the pool.
Also, the Overwatch developers announced that they will be making changes to the map pool. All maps will be available to play except Paris and Horizon. These maps were not competitive enough and developers announced that they will be tweaking the maps to make them more competitive friendly.
Of course, these changes are not coming right away, but they are coming soon. Players enjoyed these changes because it will allow them to play their favorite heroes on their favorite maps.
