One of the most iconic shooters of all time is Overwatch. Blizzard released Overwatch in 2016. For a while, things were going very well for this title. However, afterward, several Battle Royale games started to infiltrate the market and the game lost some of it’s player base. Overwatch always had a core fan base, and a solid esports league. However, this did not stop the game from losing players. Of course, maybe the most important question was how will Blizzard solve this issue? After all Blizzard games generally have a long lifetime. The answer was released on this year’s BlizzCon 2019. Overwatch 2 is announced.
Overwatch 2 was announced at Blizzcon 2019. The game did not come as a surprise to most. We all heard rumors here and there. However, let us check what will Overwatch 2 bring? Overwatch 2 has a new game mode called “Push” this new game mode will be added to the playlist. Also, new heroes are coming into the game. There will be a PvE side of the story as well. Blizzard is trying to create a deep story around the Overwatch Universe. But maybe the biggest news is Overwatch 2 will be compatible with Overwatch 1.
Shared Multiplayer Environment
Let us explain this in detail. Blizzard called this shared multiplayer environment. Players will be able to carry their cosmetics to Overwatch 2. Also, players will have access to the same heroes, same game modes and same maps regardless of their version of the game. This means that Overwatch 2 is not a sequel, it is much more like a DLC. Players from Overwatch 2 and Overwatch 1 will be able to play together and that is the most important aspect of this announcement. We have to congratulate Blizzard on taking this road because this means that the player base will not be divided. One of the main questions is, will players from Overwatch 1 have also graphical updates? Because Overwatch 2 will have a graphical update. Otherwise, players will be playing on different graphics depending on their version. However, details regarding this are unknown right now.
Overwatch New Game Mode and Maps
Let us also check out the new Game Mode. Push is an interesting game mode, players from both teams will try to control a robot to push barriers to each other territory. The winner will be whichever team that was able to push more. Also, you can see the Toronto map below.
The new maps do look amazing. Currently, we saw 4 new maps, these are Monte Carlo, Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, and Gothenburg. The story will be enhanced with Coop missions also. PvE side will face Overwatch heroes against Null Sector Robots. Players will be able to play with their teammates to complete the Overwatch 2 campaign and side missions. These missions will generally have a cosmetic item that players will be able to use in PvP.
Hero Changes
The first hero we have seen on the announcement was Sojourn. She is a Canadian hero with an arm-gun. We do not have any more details on her but we have to admit she does look cool. Also, one more thing is ready for changes to heroes’ looks, because we have seen in the trailer that Lucio’s hair was glowing. Also as much as we can see players will also be able to choose talents depending on their game styles. This will change the game a lot. The new talents will certainly make the game much more unique each match.
Overwatch 2 Release Date
