Updating: April. 18, 2020: Rockstar has been sealing their lips when it comes to any news pertaining to GTA 6. However, some information has been leaked from credible sources. Here is everything we know so far about the next Grand Theft Auto installment.
GTA 6: Latest News, Release Date for Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6
After six long years, the days of a new Grand Theft Auto game is nearing by. Rockstar has been stellar withholding information from the public. No trailers, no news on Rockstars website has mentioned a single word. However, leakers have been managing to get their hands on some decent information. Although the info is not too revealing, it gives us hints as to what GTA fans could expect in the next game. News leaks have been coming from various sources, however, one main source has been deemed a solid leak by fans.
Update April 18, 2020
Some interesting findings and announcements have been made since the last post we made back on March 9th concerning the 4channel board. In the latest round of GTA 6 leaks, Mexican actor Jorge Consejo seemed to have leaked some information out. Although it’s not anything groundbreaking, it’s still a GTA6 leak which we’ll take. Jorge Consejo listed his recent works and he listed himself as a character called “The Mexican” in GTA 6. What this means is we know 100% that GTA 6 is in works, and not just some concept on a storyboard. Given that it’s almost been 7 years since the last Grand Theft Auto game came out, it would be a little silly if nothing was in the works from Rockstar Games end.
Dear friends,
While I read every message from you, please know that because of contract stipulations sometimes I’m unable to comment on certain projects. Please don’t feel ignored or unseen. I appreciate and value every single one of you. ❤️✌🏼

Kotaku released an article that GTA 6 is still “early in development” It might be several years if not more before anything concrete gets pushed to the public. We do know that the delay of GTA 6 is mostly due to the constant updates for GTA Online and the number of resources it took to make Red Dead 2 in the last few years. Additionally, a developer told Kotaku that:
“It does seem like a healthier culture overall. We’ll see in a year or two if I’m pulling my hair out, but it does seem like we’re moving in the right direction for being a company the size we are.”
Does it sound like developers are being overworked? Could this mean that Rockstar Games is understaffed? No one knows, but that could definitely be a reason why GTA 6 won’t see any daylight anytime soon. Regardless, we know that the game is being made and most fans are happy that the franchise will continue. Kotaku also mentioned that GTA6 might be a “moderately-sized game” at launch with a series of regular updates to keep it up to date, sort of what’s going on with GTA Online
Although the updates don’t give too much information, at least there is some clarification towards the direction of when GTA 6 will be released, and that’s not any time soon despite rumors saying that the game would be ready for the next-gen consoles.
Update March 9, 2020
The latest rumor comes from a 4channel board from an Anonymous user with a Rockstar logo that posted saying “March 25th. GTA VI.” The Anonymous poster didn’t provide any other details about it, so it could be just another random post or forum troll. However, there have been many leaked information on 4chan about past Rockstar Games which were 100% true (ex: Red Dead Redemption Friday date), so it’s always a good chance that something could be posted there that is legit.
Now we’re not sure what to expect on March 25th, but there are some changes that Rockstar has done on their website (new design), which could mean something on March 25th. The main question is why would Rockstar update their website if there wasn’t going to be a wave of traffic headed their way? We’ll need to wait and see what happens on the 25th, but it can also be a cryptic tweet coming from Rockstar’s social media channels.
In other news, @GTA6Intel shared a nice fanmade video of a London concept for GTA 6, done by UK Drill Insider. You can check it out below:
GTA6 Update Nov 24, 2019
Although the rumor mill and leaks have calmed down over the last few months, there are still some interesting information being passed around. The latest update for GTA6 comes from BluesNews.com. There was an interesting tweet from a Hip-Hop group called City Morgue. The tweet showed an image in reference to Rockstar Games and showed a 2020 date (summer).
City Morgue, a hip hop group, teased this on Instagram today pic.twitter.com/SgmuT6jAK7
— Yan2295 (@Yan2295) November 10, 2019
There have been discussions going around regarding the tweet and if it’s even real, however, the twitter handle behind the tweet is the official account for the hip hop group. Blues News continued, saying, that news site GamesRadar+ “also point out that a summer 2020 release for a new GTA game doesn’t necessarily make sense in light of the expectation that new consoles are expected for the 2020 holiday season.”
Here’s a follow-up tweet from Yan2295, a “Former Rockstar Games Insider” that he posted from reddit of someone communicating with the hip-hop group:

There is a lot of speculation about what the tweet really means, and some avid Grand Theft Auto 6 fans are stating that Rockstar Games will make an official announcement regarding the game in the summer of 2020, and that City Morgue is going to be part of that somehow (part of the soundtrack probably?).
Update Oct 19, 2019
It’s been a while since there has been any news regarding the new Rockstar GTA game, and this time the news is coming from actors tied to past GTA titles. According to GTA 6 News on Twitter, Grand Theft Auto V Voice Actor Steven Ogg says that GTA 6 is coming in 2020, and that the PS5 launch title is most likely real. Although this isn’t anything groundbreaking, we have someone close to the company that can confirm what most of the rumors have been saying. Back in the summer, more info was given about the game, but there was no clarification.
Additionally, Steven Ogg reportedly said at the Brasil Game Show that GTA 6 would come out soon, noting that “games take 7-8 years to make, do the math“. Considering GTA 5 arrived in 2013. If that’s the case, then GTA 6 release in 2020 would make some sense, however, GTA 6 News is asking to remain skeptical of course. Unfortunately, nothing concrete has come forward so we’ll need to wait for more updates.
Grand Theft Auto Update July 15
GTA6 news is coming out slowly, and this time in a negative light. Fans are eagerly awaiting more information about the highly anticipated new chapter in the Grand Theft Auto universe. Some experts in the industry are saying that the game will shatter records, and perhaps Grand Theft Auto 6 will be the game to dethrone Fortnite Battle Royale.
Recently, Barrons, a financial news website has put out an article about Take-Two Stock. Specifically, Investment Banking company Jefferies stated that the stock for Take-Two Interactive won’t increase anytime soon as GTA6 won’t be releasing until 2022 (according to stock analyst Alex Giaimo), which is close to two years away. That’s a long time before anyone will see anything remotely new in the GTA universe. Hopefully, the long wait now will only reassure gamers that Rockstar games are creating the best version of GTA6 that they can. We’ll need to wait for more news to come.
GTA6 Update July 2, 2019
There hasn’t been much news regarding GTA6 in the last few months, but we have some info coming from GTA 6 News on Twitter. They have tweeted that a Reddit user by the name of u/JackOLantern1982 has provided some details about the new Grand Theft Auto game. Although the information is rumored, here’s what they are:
- Been in development since 2012
- Codename is PROJECT AMERICAS
- Set in both Vice City and a new fictional location based on Rio de Janeiro
- Set in 1970s-1980s
- You play as a drug lord-wannabe named “Ricardo”
- Inspired by Netflix’s Narcos
But despite these rumors, Kotaku’s Jason Schierer replied right away saying that these rumors are “fake”. With so much information circulating around Rockstar Games, there will be some leaks that are bound to happen. There will also be people who want to make up rumors just to get attention. So it’s always good to keep an open mind on what’s being published on sites like Reddit where anyone can say what they want.

Update May 11th, 2019
News about GTVI has been quiet in the past week, with not much coming from leakers on social media. However, GTA6 News from Twitter reported that a user on Reddit, who is a supposed “network admin” at Rockstar Games has stated that the team is working on a project from “Take Two”, and that they are designing a landing page for a major reveal. He did not specify for what game it was going to be for. Would it be for GTAVI? Or perhaps Bully 2?
The user’s name is u/ThirdeyeReddit, Users have replied to his comment calling out BS. One user said, “I don’t believe you because we know for sure Rockstar never attends to E3.“. However, ThirdeyeReddit has yet to reply back to anything, and he did not delete his comment.
Pastebin Rumors
One site called Pastebin is an anonymous storage site for plain text and source codes. Guest users can post information there, however, they won’t have the ability to edit or delete the posts (unless a post is made that can be DMCA claimed). Guest users would need to login in order to change their posts. With that said, it’s a notorious playground for leaks, which the site had hosted video game leaks in the past. This time around, a developer that is connected to Sony had pasted some information pertaining to Grand Theft Auto 6. In his words, he wrote on the site that the game will run on “cloud gaming” in alliance with Microsoft. Additionally, GTA 6 will only be available on the new PlayStation 5 (PS5). So there won’t be an Xbox One or PS4 release. The post has since been deleted for unknown reasons.
The game will supposedly require a lot of power to perform due to the enormous amount of content that it will have compared to previous titles; hence the PS5 release. As well, the graphics on Xbox One and PS4 would not sustain itself. For those who want to see more details when driving a Lamborghini, Buggati or a motorcycle, the current consoles can only resort to the GPU / graphics cards by AMD built from 2013. It was mentioned that cloud gaming would be necessary for the online portion for GTA 6. The developer stated that this would allow “continuous process” in order for the game to perform online. Another leaker on Pastebin mentioned Liberty City and Vice City, and that these locations would be included in the new game. If that’s the case, it would make sense to be powered by the cloud to have maximum performance due to the large size of these locations. On top of this, it was mentioned that gamers may also have the chance to play as a drug lord.
GTA 6 Release Date
There has been no official announcement for the release date of Grand Theft Auto VI. The only possible reason that there has been no release date announced is probably that the game is either started development or is halfway through. Whatever the reason, Rockstar Games have been quiet about the entire development with few bits of info released by Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games.
As mentioned above, the release date would be around 2020 to 2022. Specifically, users are looking at the release date of the PS5 to gauge when they can expect the new game.
Other GTA 6 Rumors
One popular site known for its leaks is GamingIntel, in which their GTA6 account tweeted earlier today that they expect Grand Theft Auto 6 to have these features:
- GTA 6 will be a PlayStation exclusive for one month before being released on other consoles.
- The game will only be available on the next-gen console (as mentioned above)
- Former Rockstar employee confirmed that GTA VI is currently in development
- A review via a Rockstar Games employee on the company rating site “Glassdoor” teased that Los Santos, Vice City, and Liberty City will be available.

Map Concept Location
There have been map concepts coming out due to a Glassdoor Review from a Rockstar Games employee. He/she left a cryptic message on Glassdoor, a popular rating site for companies about their experience working at Rockstar for the past year. They wrote the Pros and Cons, with suggestions on how to make the workplace friendlier. However, it was in the suggestions section that the cryptic message was written. Have a look at what the Rockstar employee wrote on Glassdoor:
Decoding The Feedback
In the section “Advice to Management”, the employee wrote several bullet points. Precisely 10 bullet points.
- Gamers aren’t happy with us lately.
- Time working needs cutting.
- All employees should be treated equally.
- 6 Colleagues have left due to stress.
- Let us have more holidays.
- Stop making us guilty for not working.
- Voices need to be heard more.
- Care for your new members equal.
- Less crunch pressure, more praise.
- Classic bullying needs to stop!
It is obvious that the first letter in each bullet point put together reads “GTA6 Los Santos Vice City Liberty City”. Maps with be taken from previous titles GTA 5, San Andreas, and Vice City. If a current employee is writing this, it’s definitely a source worth focusing on. Perhaps during the development phase that Rockstar games will change direction and exclude certain maps, however, considering that GTA 6 is supposed to be the biggest game in the franchise, it would make sense that all the maps from previous games are put into one game.
Since both Los Santos, Vice City, and Liberty City were mentioned in Pastebin, concept maps have been put together by the community to give their perspective of what we can expect to see. One map was put together by a Twitter user by the name of MrBossFTW.
Another user posted a concept map of Boston.
Since the leak on Glassdoor and Pastebin, Rockstar Games have been doing everything to keep a tight lid on their operations for GTA VI. It can be assumed that there’s a team dedicated to tracking down leaks online for the upcoming game.
GTA 6 Characters
One thing for sure is that GTA fans will be introduced to new characters. It goes without saying, however, will there be previous Grand Theft Auto characters that will make it onto the scene? Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling have been thrown into the picture, however, that would definitely be taken with a grain of salt. Another celebrity thrown into the mix was musical artist Drake, since he famously replicated the GTA V loading screens in his Album. Could that also give a hint of the addition of a new non-USA city in the GTA series? Drake is from Toronto, and an old 2016 Kotaku article ended with the sentence, “GTA VI taking place in Toronto confirmed“.
Obviously, not everything should be taken seriously, and with the way the post was finishing off, it seems to have been written in a jokingly manner.
Or was it?
Considering that talks about the new game are heavily discussed in the community, everyone is looking for the slightest clues. But if Toronto was going to be added in the new GTA game, then the employe of the Glassdoor review would have mentioned something. Additionally, given that the author’s twitter page has a giant Drake banner, means she a Drake fan and probably would like to see Toronto featured in a new GTA game.
Moreover, Dan Houser did say in an interview that the possibility of a lead female character is probable.
“In the future, could we do a game with a lead female character? Of course. We just haven’t found the right game for it yet, but it’s one of the things that we always think about. It didn’t feel natural for this game but definitely for the right game in the future – with the right themes, it could be fantastic. But for GTA V, this was the organic thing that came up, these were the characters what would display the themes we wanted to think about.”
Solid characters are the foundation of GTA games, and everyone is paying close attention in that area. We’ll update you as more information comes forward.
