What is Pokemon Unite?

• Pokemon Unite is announced by the Pokemon Company. A new MOBA game is coming soon.

MOBA games became a genre over the last decade. The growing power of esports enabled this and many companies attempted to enter this genre. However, no one can still come close to Dota 2 and League of Legends. These games are the pioneers of the MOBA. But of course, there are some companies that are still trying to get a slice from the cake. Amazon tried this with Crucible but until now they are unsuccessful. But one more company decided to try their luck in MOBA. Pokemon Unite is announced by the Pokemon Company.

So what is Pokemon Unite? Pokemon Unite is a 5v5 MOBA game. The game will be free-to-start which is an odd term of expression since it might mean a microtransaction bombardment. Pokemon Unite will be available on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. The powerhouse behind the game is Tencent as their TiMi studios will develop the game, this studio is known for Honor of Kings and Call of Duty Mobile. The game will combine Pokemon Universe and MOBA elements. Recently mobile gaming is on the rise and this is the main reason the companies are targeting there. The game’s map does look like a typical MOBA map with 3 lanes and a small jungle. Also, the game will be cross-play between Nintendo Switch and mobile ports.

However, even though it is a new Pokemon game Pokemon Unite got bombarded with negative reviews on Youtube. The first trailer got more than 50,000 negative reviews. Pokemon company uploaded a second video and that one has also more than 10,000 dislikes. Entering to MOBA is not easy since there are many companies, however, Nintendo Switch is one of the best selling consoles of this generation and they are in sorely need a multiplayer competitive game.
