- Epic Games finally removed highly controversial feature SBMM from Squads in-game.
Fortnite Battle Royale brought SBMM into the game and it instantly wasn’t liked by players in the community. This highly controversial feature is already present in other games within the market, most notably FPS games. Games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty already has SBMM and sparked some heated debates within the community. When we are taking a look at the general consensus within communities we can see that majority of players are against this feature. Popular streamers have also voiced their opinion given that they are not able to “enjoy their time” since they are already put in a lobby of highly competitive players, thus, they are not able to “pub stomp” in matches. However, developers are smart and they do not want other players to drop their games when they are in lobbies that don’t match their skill level, because they keep dying in the game. But finally, Epic Games buckled under pressure.
Fornite SBMM Removed
Fortnite Battle Royale had SBMM for a very long time and even streamers and star players spoken against this. Epic Games finally removed SBMM from a portion of the game, which is Squads playlist. This will change the game style within the game as players will not be competing against hardcore veterans of the game. Especially in squads, this was a major problem since it was taking account of the highest-ranked players MMR into account, and this led squads not playing together anymore. This is important news as this can push other games to remove SBMM from squads at least.
SBMM was against the general streaming culture as we know many viewers want their streamer to drop 15-20 kills every game. However, after the implementation of SBMM within the game we started to see much lower numbers as players faced much tougher opponents. As we have said before games like Call of Duty already implemented this feature since the launch and just like Fortnite it broke squads over there also. We are hoping that developers think about implementing SBMM within games differently. This will change the dull gameplay we have seen for some time now.
