Epic Games Drops V-Bucks Prices and Adds Direct Payment Option

Fortnite Battle Royale developers Epic Games is making a big change in the game. Essentially Fortnite is a free-to-play game, the cosmetics on the other hand can be purchased with V-Bucks. Since the game was free-to-play most of these microtransactions were considered ok by the gaming community. Fortnite is not a new game anymore the game is already 3 years old and the current market is filled Battle Royale games. Over time Fortnite released hundreds of skins, pickaxes, etc. Players spent sometimes hundreds of dollars to collect these skins. Of course, since the average age of the players are relatively low, there was some nasty incidents.

But Epic Games decided to do something else, unlike most other games they decided to cut their prices by 20% permanently. This was good news for collectors. However, Epic Games decided to do something else as well. These discounts are available on every platform. However, here is the catch if players want to get skins off the discounted prices on iOS and Android, they have to use the Epic Games direct payment option when they are checking out. Currently, Apple Store and Google Play Store is taking %30 from in-game purchases. This is their commission, but this move is showing the middle finger to these stores. Currently, there are no words from iOS and Android. However, we do know that Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney was against these commissions for some time. Of course, there might be some issues with these stores since if Epic Games can keep the direct payment option other mobile game developers might choose the same route. Especially Apple will have a thing or two to say.
